Annie's Gift is an African American fictional story about a young girl by the name of Annie trying to find her special talent. Annie's gifts is an interesting story about a girl whose family are really into music, and whose syblings are talented music students - but each instrument Annie tries she discovers is not for her, and she becomes upset about this. However Annie is a gifted artist and poet and expresses her upset through this - at which point her parents explain that everyone has their own gifts and talents - and that whilst her syblings are good at playing musical instruments and Annie is not, Annie is good at [...]

Annie doesn't sing or play piano well like her sister or play the trumpet like her brother. But she does have a talent for drawing and writing poetry and with help from her Mother and teacher, she is encouraged to pursue her talent. This is a great book to read aloud to children and emphasizes that while we cannot all be good at everything, we all have our own special talents.

I really appreciate this story. Annie wants to be good at music like her brother and sister. But despite several attempts with various instruments and despite her persistence, Annie is not musically inclined like her siblings. But her parents help her to see that she, too, has gifts. Great story to talk about talents, perseverance, creativity.

Heard this book read by the author and enjoyed it more than reading it. Miss Medaris is a well-known story teller and her presentation was delightful. The book has a good message. Talent comes in all different ways.

This is a good inspirational read a loud book. Annie was from a family full of musicians, but she was not one of them. She wanted so very badly to be though. So her mother found a way for Annie to contribute to the family gift. Good book.
